Couples Therapy
Building Trust, Communication, and Lasting Love
Successful long-term relationships are created through small words, small gestures, and small acts.
– John Gottman
Couples therapy in Manhattan at Glass Psychotherapy is for partners who want more from their relationship than the same arguments on repeat. Maybe communication has broken down, trust has been shaken, or you feel more like roommates than partners. Maybe things are mostly good, but you want a stronger foundation before a big life transition. Whatever brought you here, couples therapy gives you both a structured space to slow down, understand each other, and change the patterns that keep you stuck.
Our therapists take a trauma-informed, attachment-focused approach, looking beneath the surface conflict to the needs and hurts driving it. Sessions are 50 minutes and available in person at our Manhattan offices on Fifth Avenue and the Upper West Side, or virtually when that fits your schedule better.

Couples Therapy for Trust, Communication & Intimacy
Most couples don’t come to therapy because of one bad fight. They come because the same patterns keep showing up, and neither partner knows how to stop them.
Communication breakdowns. Conversations turn into lectures, shutdowns, or silence. You feel unheard, even when you’re both trying.
Recurring conflict. The topic changes, but the fight feels the same. Often the argument isn’t really about the dishes or the schedule. It’s about feeling unimportant, criticized, or alone. (Link: Same Arguments, Different Day)
Betrayal and broken trust. Infidelity, secrecy, or a breach of trust can leave both partners unsure whether repair is possible. Therapy offers a space to process what happened and decide, together, what comes next.
Emotional disconnection. You share a home and a calendar, but not much else. Physical and emotional intimacy have faded, and it’s hard to know where to start. (Link: When Couples Feel Alone Together)
In couples therapy, we help you name these patterns, understand where they come from, and practice new ways of responding to each other.
Is Couples Therapy Right For Me?
For partners looking to build a healthier and more fulfilling relationship based on trust and secure attachment, therapy can be a valuable option. If you and your partner struggle with communication, face challenges with intimacy, feel disconnected due to past wounds, or deal with unhealthy sexual behaviors, therapy offers tools and guidance to help you heal together.
This therapy meets you where you are and supports your journey toward the relationship you desire. If you’re ready to break unproductive cycles, improve communication, and create a foundation for lasting intimacy and trust, this could be the right step.
At Glass Psychotherapy, we help couples work through past hurts, strengthen their connection, and develop patterns that promote mutual growth and satisfaction.

In most cases, yes. Couples therapy is most effective when both partners are present for sessions, as the work focuses on the relational dynamic rather than on either individual alone. Consistent joint attendance allows the therapist to observe patterns in real time, support healthier communication, and ensure that both partners are equally engaged in the therapeutic process. At times, the therapist may recommend meeting with each partner individually, particularly during the assessment phase or at specific points throughout treatment, when clinically appropriate. These individual sessions are used intentionally to support the overall goals of couples therapy and are integrated back into the joint work.
Couples therapy can address a variety of relationship concerns, including communication breakdowns, trust issues, infidelity, emotional distance, intimacy challenges, unhealthy sexual behavior, and conflict resolution.
